Cannot add "links" folder to favorites

Have IE 8 - sp3 - when I go to add a folder says that it exists - cannot locate any place - thanks for any help

Do you have a Favorites Bar showing listed in the Favorites bar (e.g.
as shown by pressing Ctrl-i)?   That is a reference to your Links subdirectory--same as it has always been--forced to be there in order to implement the IE Links bar--except that now  MS 
has created the ultimate in confusing naming by having a component of the Favorites bar labeled Favorites Bar  (notice the difference in capitalization that I am using two distinguish between the two entities.)   The implementation of the Favorites Bar is
still the same as the old Links bar--a subdirectory of Favorites called Links.   So, if you have anything in your Favorites which is labeled Favorites Bar you can assume that it is a reference to your Favorites\Links subdirectory.
 
Hmm...  I can't even see this in W7 using right-click Properties of the Favorites Bar in the  awful new Windows Explorer UI...

Ok.  Here's some proof--all you need is to open a Explorer window at that level--e.g.
Run...
(press Win-R and enter:)  shell:Favorites   then drill down into the "Favorites Bar".   Then (assuming you have the Address bar enabled on your Explorer window) press
Alt-d to see its real path:  ...Favorites\Links.   QED.

To check for Windows updates
