Can't uninstall Windows Vista

I just purchased a new laptop 3 weeks ago and the default operating system is Windows Vista and I am trying to uninstall Windows Vista so that I can install Windows XP.  I am also trying to download another software called Protools, which is the main reason
why I bought the laptop.  I think the reason I can't download Protools is because of the version of windows that I have and XP would support the program.  I can seem to find where to uninstall Windows Vista.  It is not under control panel -> program features/add
remove programs.  I am at a major road block and don't have clue where else to look to uninstall the program.  Please help.

You can't "uninstall" it, because it's not a program - it's an operating system.
The only way to "uninstall" it (Vista) would be to format (wipe) the hard drive, and install another OS (such as the XP that you crave.)
Be warned, though, that this can sometimes be a bit difficult, especially on a laptop (driver availability for an earlier OS can be scarce, depending on the model.)

If it's just that one program that's giving you installation issues, perhapd there's a newer version (or, a Vista-compatible equivalent) that you can use?

Windows Error Reporting - To Fix Can't uninstall Windows Vista

1. Go to Start button.
2. Open Control Panel.
3. Go to Windows Error Reporting.
4. Click on System and Maintenance, then click Problem Reports and Solutions.
5. Next, click Change Settings located on the left side panel of the Problem Reports and Solutions window.
6. Select an option to configure how you want Windows to look for a solution to your problems. You may allow Windows to do it automatically or ask you every time to check if problem occurs.
7. Next, click the Advanced settings link.
8. Select Off to turn off Error Reporting.
