Tech Support: Can't get on the internet period

Can't get on the internet period

I am writing for my mother.
She has a E machine desk top with windows vista.
She can't get on the internet.
When she tries to connect it shuts her computer down.She tried switching her internet provider but it still does the same thing.Is this her connection
or could it be a virus of some sort please help her because she has been fooling with this for 2 weeks

It’s hard to pinpoint this, but it could be caused by a hardware or software issue.
Let’s start by booting into Safe Mode with networking.
To do this, follow the steps below:
1.      Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.
2.      Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button, and then click
Restart.
3.      Do one of the following:
·         If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts.
You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears.
If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting
until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
·         If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.
4.      On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight
Safe Mode with networking, press Enter
5.      Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.

If the issue does not occur while in Safe Mode with networking let’s start by looking at programs and drivers by doing a Clean Boot.
A Clean Boot will allow us to start Windows with certain programs and drivers turned off or on based on selection.
By doing this through trial and error we can hopefully pinpoint a specific cause of this issue.

Windows Error Reporting - To Fix Can't get on the internet period

Go to Start button.
Open Control Panel.
Go to Windows Error Reporting.
Click on System and Maintenance, then click Problem Reports and Solutions.
Next, click Change Settings located on the left side panel of the Problem Reports and Solutions window.
Select an option to configure how you want Windows to look for a solution to your problems. You may allow Windows to do it automatically or ask you every time to check if problem occurs.
Next, click the Advanced settings link.
Select Off to turn off Error Reporting.
